AFSA 2025 Executive Team By-Election
The AFSA by-election process has now begun!
Please note that during the 2024 AFSA succession period, AFSA officers were appointed to their roles rather than elected as required by the AFSA constitution and by-laws. As such, this by-election is now being held for the term of January 1st, 2025 to August 31st, 2025. The current executive team will be acting AFSA officers until positions are filled following this by-election.
AFSA acknowledges that the election process for officer appointments during the past election cycle in S2024 did not fully adhere to the procedures outlined in its constitution, specifically Section XI, which governs elections and appointments. Following complaints received in September 2024, WUSA conducted a thorough investigation, and it was determined that the required steps in the election process were not followed.
After consultation with WUSA, to address this, AFSA held an election in November 2024 for officer positions for the January 1, 2025, to August 31, 2025, term. Acting officers, who have been in their positions since September 2024, were not part of the successions. As vacancies persisted after the election in November in 2024, a by-election will be held at the start of the Winter 2025 term. Only after all prescribed election steps are exhausted will board appointments be made to fill any remaining vacancies.

WHAT IS THE EXECUTIVE SUCCESSION PROCESS?
1. Anyone enrolled in the School of Accounting and Finance (AFM, Math/CPA, Bio-tech/CPA, and CFM) for September 2024 in 2A and up are eligible to run! The only exception is for the position of President, where the student must also expect to be on campus for his/her study term for at least 8 months that year.
2. The successions process formally starts with the submission of an application for the position you wish to run for (two positions per person), the links for which can be found below:
3. Once applications are approved by the by-elections committee (you will receive an email along with further rules and regulations), the campaigning process will begin. During this period, campaigning will occur for a week before voting is held among all eligible SAF students.
4. The successful candidates will be contacted through email, while the final results will be announced on www.uwafsa.com.
5. If there are still positions open after the by-elections, the remaining executives will be appointed by the current Board of Directors.
