Position you are running for: AFEF Board of Directors

How do you feel AFEF can benefit from you on the BoD?

I’m an individual who enjoys helping others within my community. I understand that as a student it can be difficult to find opportunities to succeed within an academic career, so I want to be able to provide the necessary resources to SAF students to thrive. For the past few terms, I’ve handled the role as a VP of Education within AFSA, where my team and I created study packages and held study sessions for students to prepare for their exams. I also had the responsibility of evaluating the SAF student experience and addressing certain needs and concerns regarding their educational experience. I believe that after having been involved in AFSA and the SAF community, I understand which initiatives are important for and can benefit SAF students academically and professionally. I feel that I have great knowledge of the resources and initiatives in the community that prepare students for their professional careers, as well as enriches their learning experience.

What current or future initiatives would you prioritize AFEF funding for?

I would prioritize initiatives such as UWAC, AFOW, and AFSA. I think it is crucial that SAF students participate in conferences, like UWAC because it creates a learning experience that prepares them for their professional and academic careers. Students should be provided opportunities like this to develop their technical and soft skills, as well as network with professionals in the industry to gain insights. Additionally, I think that funding should be given for events held for incoming SAF students to help transition them into university. AFOW’s activities enable them to meet peers in their cohort and make meaningful connections with one another. Subsequently, AFSA runs a variety of events including Tax Clinic, educational initiatives, and more. The committee works to support SAF students in all aspects of their university experience and strives to create an environment where students feel included, which I believe is important to be able to develop personally and professionally.

I’m a dedicated and passionate individual who enjoys helping others within my community. As a student, I understand that it can be difficult to find the opportunities to succeed in an academic and professional career. After being involved in the SAF community and AFSA for the past few years, I recognize the various events and initiatives that provide our community the ability to enrich our learning experiences as students and future professional accountants. If elected as an AFEF member, I hope to provide funding to key initiatives that allow us to develop and grow as students, as well as those that help better prepare us for our professional careers.
