Position you are running for: AFSA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

What do you believe are the main concerns for students in SAF right now? How would you like to approach fixing them?

Within SAF, there is a lack of support for opportunities that support the professional development of SAF students. Students deserve resources and initiatives that will support them in building their own professional network and skills required for their future careers. Increasing communication for external opportunities and facilitating an inclusive environment of mentorship for students is key in helping them in this journey.

Students are also always looking for opportunities to destress from coursework and academics. Encouraging healthy study habits and positive mental health through various events and initiatives will help students maintain better physical and mental heath.

Why are you running for this position? (experience, background & motivation)

The Board of Directors plays an essential role in the strategic oversight and guidance of the Executive Committee. This includes a variety of responsibilities, such as reviewing the financial performance of AFSA through approving budgets and releasing annual Audit Reports. The Board of Directors also works to ensure that AFSA accurately represents the interests of the SAF student body by facilitating the election processes and ensuring that the student body consistently has the ability to provide feedback.

As a member of the Board of Directors, I would want to see more engagement with the SAF community to be able to increase the capacity AFSA has to make a positive impact on students. Whether that is facilitating more events or increasing lines of communication, I hope for students to be able to benefit from the resources AFSA has to offer.

I hope to provide a fresh perspective on the struggles that a SAF student faces and I am committed to facilitating an environment where students feel represented and heard. I would like to encourage more engagement and collaboration between faculty and the student body, and provide opportunities for students to succeed in their academic endeavors. Moreover, I wish to support the mental health of students through initiatives and events that continue to be inclusive and diverse.
