Position you are running for: Vice President of Internal Events

What do you believe are the main concerns for students in SAF right now? How would you like to approach fixing them?

After the pandemic, I feel that students have a major disconnect between peers in their own cohorts, as well as with students in upper/younger years. The one benefit SAF offers that not many other programs do is the tight connections you build within the whole community of students through interactions in the lounge and other spaces. My goal is to break this barrier students have by organizing SAF-wide events that don't segregate cohorts, in hopes of giving students multiple opportunities to interact with peers of all ages in fun settings.

Why are you running for this position? (experience, background & motivation)

I'm running for VP of IE in hopes of reviving the major presence AFSA's events have had in prior years by bringing back staple events, as well as introducing new additions. As a first-year who experienced AFSA events online during COVID-19, I realized the importance occasional fun events/de-stressors, and how strongly they bring SAF students together! My passion for planning events and strong network of vendors within the entertainment industry (through my business, Cakes by Alizeh!) make me perfect to help organize fun events that students will love. I have a strong understanding of what students like, how to execute their wants and vision, and hope it will ultimately translate into memories that students will reminisce on while looking back at their time at SAF :)

Hi SAF! My name is Alizeh and I am running for VP of Internal Events! The beauty of a tight-knit program is the close connections and fun memories students build together in SAF and the lounge in particular. It's my primary goal to enhance this experience (as historically done prior to COVID-19) and ensure students have ample opportunities to attend fun events every month including holiday parties, trivia nights, bubble tea talent show, and more! I hope to receive your vote because I truly care about the student-experience in AFSA beyond academics and networking, and strongly believe that a core identify of AFSA is the fun memories it helps create during our time in SAF.
