Position you are running for: AFSA Board of Directors
What do you believe are the main concerns for students in SAF right now? How would you like to approach fixing them?
Coursework Challenges: Students in SAF may struggle with complex accounting and finance concepts, coursework load, or staying updated with industry practices. To address this we can provide additional resources such as tutoring services, study groups, or online learning platforms.
Career Preparation: Students in SAF may be concerned about securing internships, job placements, or acquiring relevant skills for their desired careers. Offering workshops on resume building, interview skills, and professional development can empower students to navigate the job market successfully.
Physical/Mental Health: Students in SAF may struggle with their overall well-being and ability to learn and perform successfully if they are not given breaks. Positive mental health enables students to stay motivated, concentrate better, and effectively retain information, leading to improved academic performance. Incorporating more social events will allow students to branch out and gain a better sense of self.
What do you know about the roles and responsibilities of a Board of Director? In addition to general executive oversight and advocacy, what are some tangible deliverables that you would “want to see happen” during your 12 months as a Board of Director?
Strategic Planning: Actively participating in the development and refinement of AFSA’s plan, ensuring it aligns with The SAF students best interests. Financial Performance: Monitoring and evaluating the AFSA's financial performance, such as identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring AFSA’s financial sustainability. Succession Planning: Ensuring that the key leadership positions are being filled correctly and there are appropriate plans in place for leadership continuity and development. SAF Engagement: Engaging with the school and students of SAF to enhance AFSA’s mission. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities associated with AFSA and implementing strategies to mitigate them effectively.
During my 12-month tenure, I would like to see an increase in student engagement through the upper years as well as incoming first years. I would also like to see better collaboration between SAF and AFSA.
