Position you are running for: Vice President of Finance

What do you believe are the main concerns for students in SAF right now? How would you like to approach fixing them?

Coming in as a new student, the amount of information is dawnting. The process for going about co-op can be extremely stressfull, and the university as well as SAF provides many opportunities to provide real-world experience and opportunities to get us a head start. As simple as being able to discuss the possibilities with peers and others in the SAF community can create more comfort and confidence which I believe is extremely important. I also think we should be more open to taking ideas and discussions directly with new first year and returning students to help build off more events during the year. I think it's important to make the University and its clubs more connected and advertised to students to increase awareness for what is available to them.

Why are you running for this position? (experience, background & motivation)

I had the privilege to work in this position for the last four months, and my desire to make a difference continues to be the reason I would like bring new ideas and implement processes to this position. We are all students with extremely busy schedules, and I believe that getting the work done in a timely and effective manner is vital. I've had time to evaluate and analyze how the process was carried out, and I've already used a tracker to be more time efficient while keeping track of spending and communicating with my SAF peers. I created a program that is accessible to all students to be able to track expenses to find live updates as to when cheques are in process. After experiencing this position for 4 months, I believe there is still a lot more ideas I can contribute and bring to the table.

In the past eight months here at AFSA, I have shown to be a candidate that is accountable and trustworthy. I believe being transparent and building trust with our peers is extremely important and a value that I abide to. I am a candidate that has proven that I can collaborate well with others and am welcoming of ideas and to address concerns and do work in a timely manner. I am someone you can count on. Even though I have had a short time for the previous VP position, I have demonstrated innovative ideas and shown resourcefulness in bringing new ideas to the table. I have taken initiative to implement a system to make the job more efficient to minimize the steps of communication and to be more transparent with everyone in AFSA and SAF. I have come up with time saving measures that have proven effective. If I were promoted to Vice President of Finance, I bring stability and continuation to the position. I will continue to focus on finding creative solutions to enhance the club's success. Most importantly, I want to bring my passion and love for people to be shown within the program and continue making an impact. Thank you! I welcome your support. - Nicholas
