Sharon Jiang
Position you are running for: Vice President of Internal Services
What do you believe are the main concerns for students in SAF right now? How would you like to approach fixing them?
I think one of the main concerns SAF students have is that there is a lack of support for external opportunities and events, particularly in terms of providing information about co-op openings, events held by firms, and making connections to industry professionals. We could take more steps to make external connections to expand our network so we can better support students. For example, creating an emailing list and newsletter for students, or putting more effort into outreach.
Another concern students have right now is courses and academics. I think academics are always a big concern for students, who are always looking for more support and resources. I think a database of past and current study guides and more regular study sessions would be helpful for students.
Why are you running for this position? (experience, background & motivation)
Last term I was one of the the Deputy VPs of Internal Services, so I was very involved in planning several events like tax clinic, networking and trivia night, and exam destress bags. I helped lead and direct the IS team, and was also the one who primarily dealt with sponsorships, faculty, and purchasing logistics for our events. Personally, I like getting involved in my community! Being deputy last term felt rewarding and I think being able to help improve the lives of SAF students is a great thing.
