Hillary Khieu

Position you are running for: Vice President of Marketing

What do you believe are the main concerns for students in SAF right now? How would you like to approach fixing them?

Academic performance is an important issue for students as it is always strenuous, involving a lot of transition, time management, and difficult workload. As VP Marketing, I will address this concern by adding more study content on UWAFSA social media (Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok), including study tips for students, and transitioning tips for incoming students (more content would include a day in a life, study with me focused on shared SAF courses). In addition, finding belonging and a sense of community is important, especially for incoming SAF students. In addition, I noticed that upper years are less involved in events as they progress further from first year. I will address this issue through introducing different channels of marketing such as a subscription email list (to target upper years), UWAFSA Discord channel (for open communication and feedback among students), and growing our Tiktok, a versatile platform for a large audience of students and faculty.

Why are you running for this position? (experience, background & motivation)

"I am running for VP Marketing because I am passionate about marketing, and would love to apply my skills in a leadership position where I am able to influence students in the SAF community. I have a background working in social media and graphics within AFSA, UWPM, and throughout highschool (Model UN, SAC, Stream Syndicate) where I picked up skills using Figma, Premiere Pro, Canva, and gained skills in social media.

With my previous experience of Deputy VP in AFSA, I have a general idea of what my position entails, and gained feedback from students about what they want to see more of from AFSA, and AFSA Marketing (in terms of merchandise, posting campaigns). I want to continue in this position to further grow as a person and apply the feedback from students I gained in my following term. I absolutely enjoyed working with the rest of the AFSA executive team in my Winter term, and my marketing team. I would love to continue growing with these students and more in the future."

As VP Marketing, I hope to continue to make a positive impact on the SAF community, and to learn and grow alongside my peers within SAF. If you vote for me, I will continue to assist each committee for the success of each event, expanding our social media platforms, and creating more content oriented towards SAF students. My focus is to make marketing fun for each SAF event, and to make events accessible to a wider reach of SAF students. I want to continue to create and provide high-quality graphics for the SAF community, and to help make the SAF community thrive through the marketing committee.
